Design and Synthesis of 3d−4f Metal-Based Zeolite-type Materials with a 3D Nanotubular Structure Encapsulated “Water” Pipe

Abstract: A nanotubular 3D heterometallic zeolitic polymer, {[Yb(PDA)3Mn1.5(H2O)3].1.5H2O}n (2), was designed and synthesized by simply tuning the amount of coordinated water on the Mn ion in the molecular ladder polymer {[Yb(PDA)3Mn1.5(H2O)6].6H2O}n (1). 1 and 2 were structurally and magnetically characterized. The water molecules capsulated within the nanotube were arrayed into an unprecedented "water" pipe. The robust 2 retained intact networks after the removal of guest water trapped in the nanotubes and even after … Show more

“…Recently, the rational synthesis and investigation of heterometallicc omplexes have been ac hallenge forc hemists and have attracted increasing attention in the last few yearssince the competitive reaction containing 3d-4f metal ions in conjunction with ligands often result in formation of am ixture of homometallic assemblies rather than heterometallic species [1][2][3][4][5].…”

“…However, the design and control over high-dimensional lanthanide frameworks are rarely reported [2,3]. On the other hand, it is well known that carboxylate and pyridine groups have good coordination capacities as well as the amide group, afascinating functional group with two different types of hydrogen bonding sites: the -NH moiety which acts as an electron acceptor while the -C=O group acts as an electron donor [4][5][6].…”

“…Organic carboxylates or N-donor ligands have been widely used in construction of coordination polymers containing transition metals. In contrast to the well-investigated transition metal system, the lanthanide coordination polymers have been less studied [7][8][9]. The lanthanide ions, with their high and variable coordination numbers, flexible coordination environments and luminescence properties, provide unique opportunities for discovery of unusual…”
