Design of efficient BLDC motor for DC operated mixer-grinder

Abstract: In residential applications, DC operated appliances along with DC power distribution can provide considerable energy savings compared to the present AC system. In future, most of the domestic AC operated appliances will be replaced by efficient, DC operated appliances. Presently, domestic mixergrinders employ universal motor, which has an efficiency of the order of 70%. This paper proposes a low cost ferrite magnet based BLDC motor as an efficient alternative to universal motor. The buried magnet type rotor de… Show more

“…Carbon emissions coexist with the generation of AC by traditional dominant fossil fuels that seriously not only balancing out the earth environment but may also be a cause of the extinction of earth species. In DC distribution system with DC sources and DC appliances, 47% energy saving is observed by Gholase and Fernandes [1] and 22% system efficiency is improved by Anand and Fernandes [2]. In this paper system efficiency is improved by removing conversion stages and replacing induction motors with efficient BLDC motors.…”

“…Few research works have investigated for blender machine applications [11][12][13][14][15][16]. Moreover, previous studies focused only on improving the motor performance such as its efficiency and torque density, regardless of actual control performance with pulsating load variation from the grinding materials.…”

“…By using the open slot, it is not possible to achieve a compact and consistent winding layout, but it has high values of the slot fill factor, particularly if pressure is applied to the coils before assembling. The research conducted by Gholase and Fernandes [14] proposed a low-cost ferrite magnet-based BLDC motor as an efficient alternative. The buried magnet type rotor is preferably designed for such high-speed applications.…”
