It is worth noting that the prevalence of A. phagocytophilum in roe deer from Europe presents high variability depending on the country; while only 5.1% of roe deer were positive in Italy (Carpi et al 2009), the prevalence in the Bavarian region (Germany), where ticks and roe deer are in close contact, raised to 98.9% (Overzier et al 2013).
