Background: Cancer is one of the common diseases in childhood, the diagnosis of which shocks parents, especially mothers. Meanwhile, parents' adaptation to the disease reduces complications and problems. Objectives: Therefore, this study was aimed at exploring the impact of Roy adaptation model on care burden in mothers of children under chemotherapy. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 36 mothers of children under chemotherapy who had referred to the oncology ward of Taleghani Hospital, Gorgan, in 2018. Random sampling was carried out for both control and experimental groups. The experimental group received a training program based on Roy adaptation model during seven sessions over a four-week period. Data were collected using the Caregiver's Burden Scale (CBS) devised by Elmstahl. The results were analyzed in SPSS-18 using independent and paired t tests as well as covariance test at the significance level of P < 0.05. Results: The means of care burden before the intervention in the experimental and control groups were respectively 70.44 ± 7.04 and 67.11 ± 6.54. The independent t test did not reveal any significant difference in this regard (P = 0.15). However, after the intervention, the mean of care burden significantly differed between the experimental (50.94 ± 4.58) and control (70.88 ± 5.13) groups, as confirmed by independent t test (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Based on the results, deploying the care program based on Roy adaptation model is an effective, low-cost, and noninvasive nursing intervention for mothers of children with cancer.

BACKGROUND: Cancer, as a life-threatening disease in children, poses several challenges for parents. It is necessary to have a tool that can comprehensively examine the stressful events for parents of children with cancer. The aim this present study was done with the aim of study the Persian version of pediatric inventory for parents (PIP). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was a conducted based on methodological research design. Four hundred and fifteen parents of children with cancer referring to Alia Asghar Children's Hospital and Children's Medical Centre in Tehran answered the Persian version of PIP questionnaire in 2019. a confirmatory factor analysis was carried out using LISREL (software version 8.8) to test the construct validity of PIP. The two tools of parental stress scale and state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI-Y) were used for concurrent validity purposes. RESULTS: The results showed that, the overall score of the questionnaire was higher than the average and related to emotional distress. The internal correlation coefficient (Cronbach's alpha) in both parts of the PIP was between 0.808 and 0.957 and acceptable. Concurrent validity analysis indicated positive and significant correlation of this tool in the difficulty section of the scale with both Parental Stress Scale and STAI-Y. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the factor loads of all items except three items in the frequency section were more than 0.3 and were appropriate. CONCLUSION: The Persian version of PIP can be available to health and family experts as a valid and reliable tool to assess stressful events of parents of children with cancer.

Background: The present study was conducted to determine the epidemiological status, identify high-risk and low-risk clusters, and estimate the relative risk (RR) of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in provinces of Iran. Materials and Methods: This is an ecological study carried out using an Exploratory Multiple-Group design on 3769 children under 15 years of age with ALL from 2006 to 2014. Data analysis was performed using Mann–Whitney U, Global Moran's I and Kuldorff's purely spatial scan statistic tests at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The average annual incidence rate of ALL during 2006–2014 period was 2.25/100,000 children under 15 years of age. The most likely high-risk cluster with log-likelihood ratio (LLR) =327.47 is located in the southwestern part of Iran with a radius of 294.93 km and a centrality of 30.77 N and 50.83 E, which contained 1276 patients with a RR of 2.56. It includes Fars, Bushehr, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Khuzestan and Chahar Mahall and Bakhtiari provinces. On the other hand, the most likely low-risk cluster with 517 patients, and a RR 0.49 and LLR = 227.03 was identified in the northwestern part of Iran with a radius of 270.38 km and a centrality of 37.25 N and 49.49 E. It includes Zanjan, Qazvin, Gilan and East Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Alborz and Tehran provinces. Conclusion: High-risk clusters were observed in Southwestern, central, and eastern Iran, while low-risk clusters were identified in Northern and Western Iran.
