Developing land capability to reduce land degradation and disaster incident in Bendo Watershed, Banyuwangi

Abstract: Land degradation have caused decline in land productivity and triggering landslide incident in Bendo Watershed. This area has been selected as study area which represent characteristic upland area of the region. The research examines land capability analysis in order to reduce land degradation and disaster incidents and for sustainable use of land resources. The geomorphology approach was used along with sixteen of landform unit as unit sample. Further, artificial neural network models were used to classify la… Show more

“…This is because, as a small island, land resources are very limited, so it is important to determine the direction of development under land capability. Classification of land capability can support the sustainability of land use as well as efforts to reduce the negative impact of human activities on natural ecosystems [20], [25], [49]. Thus, in the development direction of Sulabesi Island, it is necessary to look at the distribution of built-up land cover at very low land capability and consider natural disaster risk factors.…”

“…As an area limited by topographic conditions, The watershed is an ecological container where there is a reciprocal process between physiographic conditions, the environment, living things, and their use [15]. Based on this, watersheds are widely used as objects and study locations in the fields of planning [16,17], ecological [18,19], disaster [20][21][22], and landscape studies [23]. Changes of land conditions in the watershed affected by the eruption indicate changes in the nature and function of the landscape, therefore a comprehensive identification of the landscape needs to be done to determine the characteristics of the post-eruption land.…”
