Development and Evaluation of Lamotrigine Soya Lecithin Solid Dispersion: In Vitro and Pharmacodynamic Investigation

Abstract: Objective: Epilepsy is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by spontaneous and repeated attacks of convulsions. It requires immediate pharmacotherapy to prevent its progression to status epilepticus. However, most of the anticonvulsant drugs are poorly water-soluble and demonstrate the delayed onset of action. Thus there is a need to improve its solubility for the better pharmaceutical profile. The objective of the present investigation was to enhance the solubility of lamotrigine incorporating so… Show more

“…The samples were triturated first and then mixed thoroughly with KBr in 1:1 (sample: KBr) ratio, KBr discs were prepared by compressing the powders at a pressure of 5 tons for 5 min in a hydraulic press. Scans were obtained at a resolution of 4 cm-1 from 4000 to 400 cm- 1 . The IR spectra of the physical mixture of the topiramate and chitosan were compared with the spectrum of topiramate and chitosan to determine the compatibility of drug and excipient [24].…”

“…Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures or periods of unusual behaviour, and sometimes loss of consciousness [1,2]. Although, oral route of administration is most convenient for the treatment of epilepsy, has an insignificant role in the treatment of acute epileptic attack due to delayed absorption when given orally.…”
