Development and verification of a FACTS digital real-time simulator

Abstract: A new digital real-time simulator for FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) has been developed. The IM47ZABJSIMULINK, which can realize flexibility of some realtime models, is applied as software for the model construction. This simulator is connectable with some commercial power systems real-time simulators. This paper describes the modeling of STATCOM and SSSC for the real-time simulator using SIMULINK. The validity of the calculation accuracy of SZMULINK models and the real-time calculation in a SOP time … Show more

“…These component models have been developed using the SIMULINK TM library, and thus PE device models can be built easily by connecting these models as SIMULINK TM standard blocks [3,4]. The main circuit configuration of the UPFC model including the power system model is shown in Fig.…”

“…The authors have been engaged in the development of a digital real-time simulator that enables the user to build models easily for the main circuits and controllers of PE devices [3,4]. We previously implemented a STATCOM model on the developed simulator and verified the feasibility of high-precision simulations with this unit in combination with the commercial real-time simulator RTDS TM [5].…”
