Development of Scoring Rubrics to Assess Physics Practical Skills

Abstract: The Malaysian curriculum for physics aims to produce active learners who are good with physics concepts, practical skills and scientific attitudes. Practical skills are acquired through active involvement in investigative work in the laboratory. This paper discusses the development of a scoring rubric that can be used to assess students' physics practical skills through observation, where scores are assigned to students while they are carrying out practical work. The important physics practical skills are iden… Show more

“…Physics practicum is an activity that aims to ensure the principles and laws of physics by experimenting in the laboratory. Students can determine the relationship between different variables and physical quantities, from the which formulas and can conclude the laws of physics by carrying out practical activities in the laboratory [1] [2]. Physics practicum, including the activities of a scientific nature, scientific methods and scientific procedural knowledge are used by students to understand scientific phenomena [3][4].…”

“…Science Process Skill (SPS) contains two aspects of skills, namely cognitive skills and sensory-motor skills as intellectual skills and basic knowledge behind the mastery of SPS (Aydogdu, 2015). One of the activities that can support process skills is to do practicum (Lee & Sulaiman, 2018;Liew et al, 2019). Thus practicum is essential in learning science so that everything related to its implementation is important to pay attention to, one of which is the selection of the model used.…”
