“…Schaeffer (1993) reported the value of this trait ranging from 52.1 to 75.7% for exotic dairy breeds of different ages. Our results were slightly lower than those of Almquist et al (1954);Schaeffer (1993). Williamson et al (1978) reported NRR to first insemination from 58.2 to 69.3% for dairy herds in Victoria.…”

“…Egg medium was kindly supplied by Mr J. Stables (Milk Marketing Board, Chase Farm, Bucks., U.K.). Milk medium was made according to the method of Almquist, Flipse & Thacker (1954), which consists of centrifuging pasteurized milk at 2000 g for 10 min, removing the cream, taking the underlying fat-free liquid from this slow speed spin and pelleting the milk solids by centrifugation at 48 000 g for 30 min. The clear supernatant is then heated at 92-96°C for 10 min, followed by the addition of 0-125 g D-fructose/ml and antibiotics (104 units penicillin + 10 mg streptomycin sulphate per 100 ml) when cool.…”

“…Schaeffer (1993) and Fryer et al (1958) reported values from 52.1 to 75.7% and 44 to 71%, respectively, in different ages of exotic dairy breeds. Almquist (1995) reported the average non-return rate for high fertility bulls ranged from 65 to 74% and average non-return rate for low fertility bulls ranged from 52 to 65%. The result of this study falls within the range of the published literatures.…”
