Show more

“…In the research done by Bassil-Nassif et al [37], an analysis of the dimorphism between the sexes in the volume of the facial cavities, including the orbital cavity, was also performed. The research results showed that the volume of the cranial cavity was significantly higher in male skulls than in female skulls, but the ratio of the volume of cranial cavities did not show significant differences between sexes [37].…”

“…Volumetric analysis of CBCT slices with the software used in the present study has been described as a highly accurate method of analyzing volumetric changes [32]. The 3D acquisition scanners and software of the system facilitated calculating volumes while eliminating the risk of error-inherent distortions and expansions of radiological images.…”

“…However, these studies differ in radiographic methods, using panoramic radiographs [18, 22-24, 29, 33], computed tomography (CT) [9,21,23,26] or cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) [8,22,32,34].…”

“…Bassil-Nassif et al [9,10] studied different facial volumes in an adult population according to the vertical facial growth pattern and identified sexual dimorphism effect on various volumetric measurements. ey advocate the existence of a compensatory mechanism among the three facial dimensions to equilibrate an excess or deficit of the vertical dimension maintaining constant the total facial volume.…”
