Accounting for the myriad of ways that local communities relate to peatlands is increasingly recognized as a factor for long-term restoration success. One way of doing so is through understanding how peatlands are represented by local communities using a social representation framework comprising perceived peatland benefits and functions, beliefs about their characteristics, perceived human-peatland relationships, and appropriate management pathways. In turn, these representations influence individual interpretation of peatland restoration outcomes and, to a lesser degree, engagement with revegetation activities. We conducted 55 semi-structured interviews with three communities living in and around peatlands in Bengkalis, Riau, Indonesia. We show that, among those interviewed, peatlands had various and divergent representations. Each representation reflected its own social-ecological relationship with, and valuation of, peatlands, and individual and shared experiences. For example, peatlands were primarily valued for their production purposes, but were also represented as degraded lands and areas important for climate change mitigation. The different representations were not mutually exclusive; on occasion, the same interviewee expressed several different representations. Moreover, some representations were shared among geographically dispersed participants, reflecting common experiences of peatland management. Overall, the results reaffirm the need to account for local representations of the environment in the management of tropical peatland, and notably in the setting of restoration goals.

Fruit set merupakan istilah yang digunakan dalam kelapa sawit untuk menggambarkan rasio buah yang jadi terhadap keseluruhan buah pada satu tandan termasuk buah yang partenokarpi/mantel. Fruit set yang baik pada tanaman kelapa sawit adalah diatas 75%. Semakin tinggi nilai fruit set, maka berat, kualitas dan ukuran tandan akan semakin meningkat, sedangkan ukuran buah semakin kecil. Pada jenis tanah yang berbeda dapat menimbulkan perbedaan ketersediaan air dan hara untuk mencukupi kebutuhan tanaman, khususnya pada masa pembentukan organ-organ generatifnya, dimana selanjutnya dapat mempengaruhi pembentukan fruit set. Kajian ini ditujukan untuk mempelajari pembentukan fruit set pada lahan gambut dan pasiran di PT Sumur Pandan Wangi-Hanau, Kabupaten Seruyan, Kalimantan Tengah. Berdasarkan hasil yang didapat, menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai fruit set pada tipe lahan gambut sebesar 58,21%, dan nilai fruit set pada lahan pasiran sebesar 54,08 %, bila diklasifikasikan nilai fruit set tergolong kedalam kelas 3 (50 -74%). Hasil uji t diperoleh (1,83), pembentukan fruit set pada lahan gambut dan lahan pasiran tidak menunjukkan perbedaan nyata. Perbedaan karakter antara lahan gambut dan lahan pasiran di PT Sumur Pandan Wangi-Hanau, Kabupaten Seruyan, provinsi Kalimantan Tengah, menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan potensi pembentukan fruit set yaitu pada kelas 3. Rendahnya kelas pembentukkan fruit set diduga dikarenakan karakter lahan yang masing-masing tidak dapat menyediakan kebutuhan nutrisi yang diperlukan dan kondisi curah hujan tinggi (tidak terdapat bulan kering pada tahun 2020) mempengaruhi agresivitas serangga penyerbuk dan menggumpalnya serbuk sari.

<p><span lang="EN-US">Fire is a disaster and its frequency is increasing every year. Seeing this, it is very important to know the spatial distribution of hotspots to determine the potential for fires in each area. Based on this, it is necessary to conduct research with the title "Spatial Distribution of Hotspots Using S-NPP VIIRS for Early Detection of Potential Fires". This research includes the type of descriptive research. The population in the study were all hotspots in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan Province. Hotspots were taken from the results of the S-NPP VIIRS satellite imagery recording from 2012-2021. The number of samples is equal to the number of populations. The data analysis technique uses nearest neighbor analysis and descriptive analysis which is processed using Arc GIS software. The research results show that fires occur during the dry season, namely in July, August, September and October. Spatial distribution of hotspots from the results of S-NPP VIIRS satellite imagery based on the accuracy of the most confidence level in July, August, September and October. If the spatial distribution of hotspots is known, it can be used as an early detection effort. Early detection is carried out as an effort to prevent and control fires with a greater negative impact. In addition, with the existence of an early warning system, the community is better prepared to deal with fires so that the negative impacts that may arise due to fires can be minimized, including loss of life and property. </span></p>
