Disruptive innovations in the clinical laboratory: catching the wave of precision diagnostics

Abstract: Disruptive innovation is an invention that disrupts an existing market and creates a new one by providing a different set of values, which ultimately overtakes the existing market. Typically, when disruptive innovations are introduced, their performance is initially less than existing standard technologies, but because of their ability to bring the cost down, and with gradual improvement, they end up replacing established service standards. Disruptive technologies have their fingerprints in health care. Pathol… Show more

“…Although disruptive innovation is widely accepted as a main renewable force to combat inefficiency issues in health care, 19 our understanding in this context is mostly on literatures in the stream of socio-technical perspective derived from the cases of disruptive technology and equipment (e.g., mHealth, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and cloud-based platform). 20,21 The perspective on business model, especially the SEs, deserves more focused research based on empirical fact findings. This study went beyond describing technologies as disruptive technological innovations, and attention is given to the business model innovation associated with the health care delivery service—SEs as an agent of disruptive innovation from the lens of community-driven initiatives.…”

“…(POŠĆIĆ, 2020). Além das inovações técnicas, as inovações do modelo de negócios, bem como as inovações de produtos ou serviços (KHATAB, 2021;FACCIA, 2022), e a combinação de ambas levam as empresas ao ponto de captação de novos clientes e vendas exclusivas que só são possíveis por meio de novas tecnologias. (NIEWÖHNER, 2020).…”

“…[1]. Although heterogeneous and multiple data have been generated through the years (from genomics to epigenetics), novel technologies have been developed to collect, analyze, and manage information from clinical and real-world scenarios, including artificial intelligence (AI)-based mathematical formalisms for data analysis or digital solutions for data capture [2].…”
