The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the entire world in unprecedented ways. However, populations that have had a history of marginalization have experienced a more profound impact. One such group is Latinx families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the Unites States. In this study, we used a mixed methods approach to explore the impact of the pandemic on the mental health and well-being of Latinx caregivers of children with IDD. Specifically, we (1) identified which social determinants of health are correlated with maternal caregivers perceived general health, mental health, and well-being; (2) explored the impact of the pandemic on families’ overall eating and physical activity routines; and (3) identified emergent themes from caregivers’ experiences during the pandemic. Thirty-seven Latinx caregivers participated in three interviews in which several validated instruments were administered. The results indicated that perceived social support, annual family income, food security, and receipt of financial benefits were correlated with fewer depressive symptoms. Annual family income was also significantly correlated with perceived general health. Most caregivers reported that the pandemic had placed a strain on their economic situation; increased their isolation; and disrupted their child’s therapeutic supports, online education, eating routines, and engagement in physical activity. Meanwhile, some caregivers reported positive changes as a result of the pandemic. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.

The educational integration of blind and visually impaired children has proven to be an upward trajectory in the process of upbringing, education, acquisition of knowledge and competencies in children with visual impairment. In addition to the benefits for the child's intellectual development, the integration process is of great importance in the social context. The education system has changed over time, both for visually impaired students and for their without visual impairment peers. Modern approaches and methods in the process of upbringing and education have made many means for work and learning for children who are blind and visually impaired inaccessible. We strive to adapt the environment for children with disabilities in order to fully include them and give them the opportunity to follow the most modern methods and use modern teaching aids in the process of upbringing and education. “…Istraživanje koje su sproveli Batistin i saradnici (Battistin et al, 2021) nakon šestomesečnog pilot projekta sveobuhvatne stručne podrške na daljinu deci sa oštećenjem vida i njihovim porodicama za vreme primene mera socijalnog i fizičkog distanciranja usled pandemije COVID-19, u kome su poredili rezultate evaluacije ovog projekta od strane stručnjaka i od strane roditelja, pokazalo je da postoji povezanost između percepcije roditelja da su koristeći usluge stručnjaka u okviru projekta imali adekvatnu podršku i percepcije visokog nivoa stresa za to isto vreme kod stručnjaka. U ovom radu biće analizirani uslovi rada stručnih radnika koji su u neposrednom kontaktu sa decom sa smetnjama u razvoju tokom pandemije koronavirusa (COVID-19), ali i potencijalna rešenja za prevazilaženje izazova sa kojima su se susretali u proteklom periodu. Strategije javnog zdravlja poput mera socijalnog distanciranja i prestanka rada određenih institucija, koje su mnoge zemlje uključujući i Republiku Srbiju donele tokom 2020. i 2021. godine u cilju sprečavanja širenja pandemije koronavirusa (COVID-19), uticale su na promene u svakodnevnoj rutini ljudi širom sveta. Zbog ovih mera dolazi do ograničenog pristupa resursima koje su u redovnim okolnostima deca sa smetnjama u razvoju koristila – vaspitno-obrazovnom sistemu i sistemu zdravstvene i socijalne zaštite. Sistematskim pregledom aktuelne literature u ovom radu ističemo specifičnu poziciju stručnjaka koji rade sa decom tokom pandemije koronavirusa (COVID-19), uz poseban osvrt na lično zadovoljstvo poslom i samoefikasnost pre i u toku pandemije, te nivo stresa i izazove sa kojima se susreću defektolozi, kao i načine prevazilaženja novonastalih uslova rada. Pandemija preusmerava fokus rada stručnjaka sa direktnog rada sa detetom na procese i postupke saradnje sa roditeljima i/ili starateljima u većoj meri nego što je to bio slučaj u periodu pre pandemije.
