Distortion compensation strategies in the production process of bearing rings

Abstract: In the SFB570, several sub-processes of the standard process chain for manufacturing bearing rings have been modified in order to compensate distortion. This paper presents control strategies that enable a precise deployment of the compensation potential, on a local (sub-process) level as well as along the process chain. Two different control strategies for local compensation are demonstrated at the example of the cutting and the gas quenching processes. Furthermore, a concept for a process-wide compensation o… Show more

“…These relations can be of various form and character, direct or indirect, of importance within a single manufacturing process/operation or just valid when looking at the whole manufacturing programme. Just, imagine an illustration of relations between a whole selection of relevant state characteristics and processes (process parameters) that provide a solid base for an information management system supporting in process quality control (Dijkman 2009). The more processes and operations and relevant state characteristics that have to be considered, the more a possible illustration becomes complicated.…”

“…Therefore, both devices are able to induce thermally generated 'counter' deformation to compensate the roundness deviation of a distorted ring. The approach for a compensation strategy thereto is described in former publications [6,7,8]. But, they require the knowledge about ring roundness during the sub-processes heating and quenching.…”
