“…Ceratocystis fimbriata (culture collection CMW, Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute, University of Pretoria, South Africa; see van Wyk et al, 2005) was recovered more frequently, as was C. omanensis (culture collection CMW; see Al-Subhi et al, 2006). In addition, the bark beetle Hypocryphalus mangiferae (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) (Florida Department of Agriculture, identification reference E2005-1780-701) appeared to be consistently associated with the disease, possibly acting as a wounding agent and as a vector of spores.…”

“…These groups are, furthermore, distinct from C. manginecans, which causes a similar disease of mango in Oman and Pakistan (Al Adawi et al 2006, Van Wyk et al 2005, 2007a. The isolates residing in these two groups are consequently treated as distinct taxa and the names C. mangicola and C. mangivora have been provided for them.…”

“…Sequence data obtained in this study for Brazilian isolates from mango were compared with those residing in the C. fimbriata s.l. clade for Ceratocystis obtained from GenBank or those previously published (Van Wyk et al 2005, 2007a,b, 2009a,b, 2011. These sequences were aligned using MAFFT (http://timpani.genome.ad.jp/%7emafft/server/) (Katoh et al 2002) and confirmed manually.…”

“…Despite its wide host and geographic ranges, C. fimbriata is generally reported to attack each host in relatively restricted geographic areas (Baker et al 2003). Until few years ago, Brazil was the only country where mango trees (Mangifera indica) were reported as hosts of C. fimbriata (Baker et al 2003), but mango trees attacked by this pathogen or by related species have been recently observed in Oman and Pakistan (Van Wyk et al 2005;Al-Subhi et al 2006). In Brazil, C. fimbriata seriously attacks mango trees, causing severe loss of yield.…”
