“…Our finding that certification leads to 33% reduced deforestation is similar to research in the logging, timber plantation, and coffee sectors that found significant reductions in deforestation of 2–25% due to third-party certification ( 16 , 42 ). Our result contrasts with work that found no effect of coffee or logging certification on forest loss ( 43 46 ). Thus, RSPO certification appears to be at least as effective as similar certification systems at reducing deforestation.…”

“…But again all improvements, whether by group or individually certified farms, are made within a certification system that becomes more difficult to acquire year after year. The lack of deterioration over time is reassuring, especially since farms that undergo certification generally were previously committed to environmental and social issues before the certification process (COSA 2014;Hardt et al 2015). Improvement despite increasing difficulty would suggest that those farms that undergo the SAN audit learn about sustainable management of their farms as well as how to achieve (socially sustainable) outcomes.…”

“…Critérios estão sendo estabelecidos para assegurar a sustentabilidade das cadeias do agronegócio, a exemplo da, European Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED). O que fomenta iniciativas abertas de multi-stakeholders e da indústria privada no estabelecimento de certificações socioambientais para atender esses critérios Hardt et al, 2015).…”
