Down expression of lnc-BMP1-1 decreases that of Caveolin-1 is associated with the lung cancer susceptibility and cigarette smoking history

Abstract: Lnc-BMP1-1 is a lncRNA transcribed from SFTPC (surfactant associated protein C), a lung tissue specific gene encoding pulmonary-associated surfactant protein C (SPC) that is solely secreted by alveolar typeⅡ epithelial cells, among which the ones with SFTPC+ might be transformed into lung adenocarcinoma cells. Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) is a candidate tumor suppressor gene and is vital for coping with oxidative stress induced by cigarette smoke. When comparing lung cancer tissues with their adjacent normal tissues, th… Show more

“…CAV1 has also been confirmed to be expressed in lymphocytes and plays a potential role in latent HIV infection [21]. In recent years, the role of CAV1, as a candidate tumor suppressor gene, has attracted increased attention [22,23]. Many studies have shown that CAV1 is expressed in almost all normal cells, but the expression of CAV1 in most cancer cells or cells transformed by oncogenes is significantly reduced [24].…”

“…This gene is transcribed from the intron area of surfactant protein C; thus, highly expressed in the lung. Recent studies show that Lnc-BMP1-1 might promote the transcription of CAV1 by downregulating the expression of histone deacetylase 2 106 (figure 3 A). Lnc-BMP1-1 expression was decreased in LC tissues, especially in patients with a history of cigarette smoking; therefore, it is logical to expect a lower expression of CAV1 in those patients.…”

“…It was first found in bones and has been reported to play a variety of functions in bone formation [63]. Some studies have also found that this may be related to susceptibility to lung cancer [64]. Presently, some studies have found that the expression of its transcriptional product lncRNABmp1 is significantly increased in a burn mouse model, and the Bmp1 content is upregulated after intestinal mucosal injury.…”
