Eccrine synringofibroadenoma (ESFA): a report of two cases

Abstract: Eccrine syringofibroadenomas is typically a benign rare neoplasm. Eccrine syringofibroadenomas (ESFA) originates from or is differentiating toward the acrosyringium or eccrine dermal duct. Histologically, there are multiple anastomosing cords of benign epithelial cells surrounded by a loose fibrovascular stroma. The epithelial cords demonstrate ductal differentiation. Occasional luminal eccrine ducts are noted within the anastomosing cords. The authors describe two cases with different subtypes of ESFA, a soli… Show more

“…Multiple ESFA, also known as eccrine syringofibroadenomatosis , is an unusual variant of ESFA that has been primarily described in reported cases as palmoplantar hyperkeratosis. 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 Because of its rarity, ESFA is not often recognized and may be difficult to distinguish from more common inflammatory dermatoses, which may lead to inappropriate therapeutic interventions. We present a rare manifestation of ESFA that presented as progressive erosive plaques on the palms and soles of an elderly woman, which had been unresponsive to several therapies.…”

“…Neoplasm is characterized by polymorphous clinical presentation ranging from a solitary papule or nodule to multiple lesions with a linear arrangement, known as eccrine syringofibroadenomatosis. The lesion is usually slow-growing and flesh- to reddish-colored [ 236 ]. The tumor is typically found on the lower extremities, sometimes with nail involvement [ 229 ].…”

“…The solitary tumor is surgically excised. In unresectable cases, monitoring and generous sampling are recommended to exclude malignant transformation [ 236 , 240 ]. Spontaneous regression of reactive subtype following successful treatment of the underlying inflammatory condition has been reported.…”
