Economic efficiency of Slovak agriculture and its commodity sectors

Abstract: The article brings out the findings about economic efficiency of agriculture and its commodity sectors after the accession of Slovakia into the EU. The adoption of the CAP had a positive impact on the growth of the off-market and total income but at the same time, its production efficiency decreased and the production structure has changed. Less efficient sectors of the crop and livestock production declined. Regarding the aspect of financing of the agricultural sector, the European resources, mainly the direc… Show more

“…The optimal use of production factors in relation to productivity and economic efficiency of the agricultural entities as well as their determinants are examined by a number of domestic and foreign authors in many published scientific studies (Kalirajan and Shand 2001;Rosochatecká 2002;Juřica et al 2004;Covaci and Sojková 2006;Dinar et al 2007;Sojková et al 2008;Papoušek 2011;Střeleček et al 2011;Chrastinová and Burianová 2012).…”

“…This fact significantly affects the production orientation as well as the production efficiency. On the basis of soil and climatic conditions such as the categories of soil, soil type, soil depth, granularity, altitude, the exposure of soil blocks, as well as the climatic conditions (the average annual temperature, the annual rainfall, wind) and many others, the Slovak territory is divided into the areas with better natural conditions (productive areas) and the areas with worse natural conditions (less favoured areas) (Chrastinová and Burianová 2012;Buday and Vilček 2013).…”

“…Rozličný charakter činností v rámci poľnohospodárskeho podniku (rastlinná a živočíšna výroba) spôsobuje rozdiely v názve kalkulačných položiek. Z tohto dôvodu je napríklad v rámci položky spotreba priameho materiálu konkretizovaná spotreba krmív a stelív v živočíšnej výrobe a spotreba osív a hnojív v rastlinnej výrobe (Rajčániová, 2007;Bielik, 2006;Chrastinová a Burianová, 2012). Pre kvalifikované vyčíslenie vlastných nákladov v poľnohospodárskej výrobe je potrebné zabezpečiť tieto naturálne údaje: spotreba osív a sadív na jednotlivé plodiny, spotreba krmív podľa druhov za jednotlivé kategórie zvierat, spotreba vyrobených (organických) a priemyselných hnojív na jednotlivé plodiny, naturálna výroba a predaj jednotlivých výrobkov a zvierat, obraty jednotlivých kategórií zvierat a odpracované hodiny (Burianová, 2011).…”

“…Vlastné krmivá (objemové a jadrové) sa oceňujú vlastnými nákladmi, resp. výrobnými nákladmi a ich úroveň výrazne ovplyvňuje efektívnosť výroby živočíšnych komodít (Chrastinová a Burianová, 2012). Prijímanie pastvy v chove oviec z príležitostnej paše by nemalo byť do vlastných nákladov zakalkulované, pretože zvyšky po zbere plodín nedokážu zužitkovať iné druhy zvierat (Vláčil, 1997).…”

“…The Slovak agriculture is characterised by the differentiation in the achieved economic results in terms of the size of agricultural enterprises measured by the number of employees; the agricultural land area; the legal form of enterprises; and natural conditions (Chrastinová and Burianová 2012).…”
