— Editorial — Guidelines for experimental design and statistical analyses in animal studies submitted for publication in the Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences

Abstract: Animal experiments are essential to the study of animal nutrition. Because of the large variations among individual animals and ethical and economic constraints, experimental designs and statistical analyses are particularly important in animal experiments. To increase the scientific validity of the results and maximize the knowledge gained from animal experiments, each experiment should be appropriately designed, and the observations need to be correctly analyzed and transparently reported. There are many exp… Show more

“…Inc., Cary, NC, USA). The model included dietary treatment as a fixed variable and animal and period as random variables [12]. Least squares means of each treatment were calculated and the difference among the least squares means was tested using the PDIFF option of SAS with the Tukey’s adjustment.…”

“…In the energy digestibility experiment, dietary treatments were considered as a fixed variable, while replication, animal within replication, and period within replication were considered as random variables. The least square means were calculated for each treatment, and differences between least squares means were tested using the PDIFF option with Tukey's adjustment [12]. The experimental unit was a pig, and an alpha level of 0.05 was used to determine statistical significance.…”

“…The LSMEANS procedure was used to calculate treatment means. The orthogonal polynomial contrast test was performed to determine linear and quadratic effects of increasing inclusion levels of β-mannanase in diets on each measurement (Seo et al, 2018). Significance and tendency for statistical tests were set at p<0.05 and 0.05≤p≤0.10, respectively.…”
