Effect of Annealing Temperature on Microstructure and Superelastic Properties of Ti-Au-Cr-Zr Alloy

Abstract: Effect of annealing temperature on microstructure and superelasticity of Ti-4Au-5Cr-8Zr (mol%) was investigated. Only ¢ phase was observed in the specimen annealed at 1173 K, whereas the precipitation of Ti 3 Au, Zr 33 Ti 40 Au 27 (Laves phase) and ¡ phase occurred in the specimens annealed below 1073 K. Superelasticity was clearly observed in the specimens annealed at 1073 K and 1173 K, though it was absent in the specimens annealed at 873 K and 973 K. The maximum superelastic recovery strain was increased by… Show more

“…In the case of stent grafts of Ti–Ni, severe pitting and crevice corrosion appears by the acceleration of corrosion due to the crevice between Ti–Ni alloy and a polymer as an artificial blood vessel (Heintz et al, 2001). Therefore, Ni-free Ti-based superelastic alloys have been researched (Shinohara et al, 2015).…”

“…58) In addition, the effects of annealing temperature on the texture formation of the Ti-4Au-5Cr-8Zr alloy was also conducted. 61) In this study, the Ti 3 Au compound was formed when the annealing temperatures were at 973 and 1 073 K, while no Ti 3 Au compound could be found when the annealing temperature was elevated to 1 173 K. It was discerned that the as-rolled specimen and the 973 K annealing-treated alloy performed the {112} β < 110 > β rolling texture, while the 1 073 and 1 173 K annealing-treated alloy displays the {001} β < 110 > β recrystallization texture. Furthermore, the effect of the Ti 3 Au precipitates on the deformation behavior of the superelasticity of the Ti-4Au-5Cr-8Zr alloy was also investigated, 62) where the alloys were annealed at 1 073 and 1 173 K, respectively.…”

“…Basically, in the aforementioned three literature of the Ti-Au-Cr-Zr alloy system, [60][61][62] Zr element, which was in the IVB group as Ti element, was utilized for the replacement of Ti to reduce its M s . Besides to the aforementioned Ti-4Au-5Cr-8Zr alloy, the Ti-Au-Cr-Cu alloys were also investigated.…”
