Effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and rhizobacteria on banana growth and nutrition

Abstract: -The effect of the combined inoculation of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Glomus manihotis and a rhizobacteria consortium of Bacillus spp. on micropropagated banana plantlets, during the acclimatization phase under routine nursery conditions was investigated. Micropropagated banana plantlets from the 'Grande Naine' cultivar were inoculated with G. manihotis at the beginning of the nursery phase. Twenty days after fungal inoculation, a Bacillus consortium containing approximately 10 8 CFU (colonies former un… Show more

“…The findings reported here may indicate that the presence of inorganic nutrients without mycorrhizae failed to produce better results in terms of growth variables as reported previously (Endlweber and Scheu, 2006;Rodríguez-Romero et al, 2005). An in- Impatiens balsamina is a highly mycotrophic species.…”

“…The nursery phase lasted two and half weeks longer than the experimental nursery period followed by Rodriguez-Romero et al (2005). Three soil replicates from each treatment were thoroughly mixed in sterile containers to constitute a composite sample from which 1 kg soil was taken and placed in sterile paper bags and labeled.…”
