“…In addition, the fish that were fed the diet supplemented with OTC + SpPdp11 showed a significant increase in the transcription of the GPx gene, which encodes the protein glutation peroxidase. [98] and support a reduction of apoptosis.…”

“…In prebiotics research in fish, not much has been carried out on the effects of these dietary supplements in the antioxidant status in fish. However, in a recent study involving probiotics and palm fruit extracts showed that these dietary supplements altered the expression of selected antioxidant genes: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and GR particularly in the gills and skin of gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata (Esteban et al., ) and common carp (Hoseinifar, Dadar, Khalili, Cerezuela & Esteban, ). These preliminary findings seem to indicate that prebiotics have important roles in the antioxidant capacity in various organisms when incorporated in the feed.…”

“…Regarding seabream, we have checked the effect of the probiotic heat-inactivated both in vitro and in vivo conditions [26,40], and its effect when administered alone or combined with different immunostimulants such as b-1,3/1,6-glucan [41] and date palm extracts [42]. In the present work, we focus on the effects of SpPdp11 alive and encapsulated in calcium alginate beads on innate immune parameters and gut microbiota in gilthead seabream.…”
