Effect of filler on performance of porous asphalt pavement using multiscale finite element method

Abstract: Porous asphalt (PA) pavements are widely employed in areas with wet climates due to their excellent permeability and superior performance. As particle enhancement inclusions in asphalt mastic, mineral fillers play essential roles in improving the performance of PA pavements. This study developed a coupled multiscale finite element (FE) model, involving the mesostructure of PA mixture and PA pavement. Within this model, the mesoscale structure was captured by X-ray computer tomography (X-ray CT) scanning and re… Show more

“…Yang et al investigated the effects of nano-SiO 2 content on the Engler viscosity and storage stability of asphalt emulsion as well as the performances of asphalt emulsion residue [22]. Du et al proposed that Al 2 O 3 and SiO 2 chemical components played a leading role in improving the bearing capacity and rutting performance of porous asphalt pavement [23]. Moeini et al investigated the modification effect of two morphologically different nano-SiO 2 materials: (i) a synthesised fibrous with porous structure and (ii) a commercial spherical with nonporous structure, on asphalt binder [24].…”
