Effect of Nitrogen Levels and Picking of Green Fruits on the Fruit and Seed Production of Okra (<i>Abelmoschus Esculentus</i> (L.) Moench)

Abstract: A field experiment on okra taking the variety BARI Dharos-1 with four nitrogen levels (0, 75, 125 and 175 kg/ha) (Tk.193.56/ha), net return (Tk.126.35/ha) and maximum BCR of 2.88.

“…This might be due to the fact that the enhanced food materials translocated towards the site of new pod formation and development. The results are in accordance with the findings of Mohammadi et al, (2015), Moniruzzaman and Quamruzzaman (2009), Khan and Jaiswal (1988) and Grewal et al, (1972).…”

“…As far as the fruit retention loads are concerned, green fruits were not harvested in R 2 fruit retention load (Retaining all fruits). Khan and Jaiswal (1988), Deshmukh and Tayde (1986), Moniruzzaman and Quamruzzaman (2009), Kumari et al, (2013) and Bhanuje and Raikar (2016).…”

“…This result contrasts with those of Uddin, Mondal, Samsuzzaman, and Siddique (2006) and Moniruzzaman and Quamruzzaman (2009) who reported a positive effect of N on mean 100 seed weight. The percent germination of seeds extracted immediately after harvest or after storage of pods for 15 days before seed extraction was not affected by N application; nor was seed moisture content.…”

“…Although Majanbu et al (1985) and Moniruzzaman and Quamruzzaman (2009) reported a positive effect of N on the number of seeds per fruit, in our experiments the N level had virtually no effect on seed number in any cultivar in both experiments. It is possible that these differences relate to the cultivars used in each study, or to differences in climatic conditions.…”
