“…Nanodiamond (ND) induced abnormal upregulation of DNMT2 in human cervical carcinoma (HeLa) cells and increased overall DNA methylation (Mytych et al, 2014). Exposure of nerve cells and endothelial cells to AgNPs could stimulate DNA methylation as well as the expression of DNMTs, suggesting that the potential toxicity of NMs should not be ignored when applied in nanomedicines (Gonzalez‐Palomo et al, 2021; Mytych et al, 2017).…”

“…Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) exposed to SiNPs (58.11 ± 7.30 nm) were found to negatively regulate IL6R/STAT/TF signaling pathway via miR‐451a, which had the potential to induce thrombosis by causing vascular endothelial dysfunction (Feng et al, 2019). Alternatively, Maldonado et al detected decreased miRNA‐126, 146, and 155 expression levels in endothelial cells exposed to AgNPs, and also found that elevated expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule‐1 (VCAM‐1) and interleukin 6 (IL‐6), the target genes of these miRNAs, caused inflammatory responses (Gonzalez‐Palomo et al, 2021). The above results suggested that exposure to NMs could induce cardiovascular disease and that miRNAs play a regulatory role in this process.…”

“…75,150 A variety of nanoparticles including gold and silver have been shown to enhance angiogenesis, possibly through the modulation of reactive oxygen species. [151][152][153] When testing the ability of biomaterials to regenerate bone, one can make changes in multiple properties, but the behavior of cells important for bone formation, bone resorption, vascularization, and the immune response need to be studied in order to more accurately predict the outcomes in vivo or in clinical trials, as osteoblasts are not the only cell type that instruct healthy bone formation.…”

“…There are extensive studies which investigated the toxicity of metal particles to ECs (C. M. Chen et al, 2020; Duan et al, 2014; Gholinejad et al, 2019; Gonzalez‐Palomo et al, 2021; Guo et al, 2018; Guo et al, 2016; Khan et al, 2019; Lee et al, 2019; Liang et al, 2020; Liang et al, 2016; X. Numerous studies have reported that silica NPs (Si NPs) can induced apoptosis, autophagy, inflammation and oxidative stress through multiple signaling pathways, which in turn trigger vascular endothelial cell injury (Duan et al, 2014; Guo et al, 2018; Guo et al, 2016; Lee et al, 2019; X. Liu et al, 2021; D. P. Wang et al, 2020; W. Wang et al, 2018).…”

“…But Si NPs modified with polyethylene glycol could significantly alleviate the vascular endothelial damage (Liang et al, 2020). Silver NPs (Ag NPs) could affect the function of ECs through various passages (Gonzalez‐Palomo et al, 2021; Khan et al, 2019; Shi et al, 2014). And, zinc oxide NPs (ZnO NPs) have been reported to cause damage in ECs (C. M. Chen et al, 2020; Liang et al, 2016; Poier et al, 2020).…”
