Effect of ultrasonication and Na2MoO4 content on properties of electroless Ni–Mo–P coatings

Abstract: Electroless Ni-Mo-P composite coatings with or without ultrasonic field were successfully deposited. The Sodium molybdate concentration was changeable to receive various Mo and P contents. Compared with the absence of ultrasound field, the coatings obtained smoother surface and higher Mo and P contents. The microhardness was determined by Vickers diamond indentation. The results showed that the hardness improved with increasing molybdenum and phosphorus content. The sample revealed the optimum hardness (886 HV… Show more

“…However, the sum of R coat and R ct of the UF-Ni-Mo-P/MoS 2 coating (7752 Ω•cm 2 ) is increased than that of Ni-Mo-P coating. It is due to mechanical effect ultrasound improves the nucleation rate and restrains the grain volumes, making the internal structure of the UF-Ni-Mo-P/MoS 2 coating denser, which improve the electrochemical corrosion resistance [21,39]. These test results are consistent with the conclusions of the Tafel test.…”

“…Electroless Ni-P coating is considered as the preferred method among various surface treatments to enhance the corrosion and wear resistance of magnesium alloys [14][15][16] . Recently, for exploring the application of electroless Ni-P coating, co-deposition of metallic elements such as W 17,18 , Cu 19 , Ag 20 , Fe 21 , Zn 22 , Mo 23 , and Co 24 formed Ni-X-P ternary alloy coatings with superior hardness, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. In particular, the Ni-W-P coating have received wide attention due to the special characteristics of the W element, such as high hardness, high melting point and low coefficient of expansion 25 .…”

“…Ceramic substrates have attracted much research interest thanks to their chemical and environmental stability, low cost, and good mechanical and thermal properties. In order to overcome the major drawback of their insulating nature [ 1 ], the electroless deposition (ED) was proposed as a promising approach as it is a facile, low cost, and efficient process allowing the synthesis of conductive, homogenous, continuous, and compact films irrespective of the geometry and nature of the substrate, without the need for external electricity [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ].…”
