This study examined high school students’ views of their teachers using interpersonal communication in Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL). The respondents involved 38 students as reached saturated data, which were taken from six classes taught by two EFL teachers (male and female) at a high school in South Sulawesi province, Indonesia. A semi-structured interview was employed with students to collect the data. The semi-structured interview data were categorized and reported descriptively according to DeVito's (1997) effective interpersonal communication: openness, empathy, supportiveness, positive feelings, and equality. This study reveals that students' perception shows that both teachers conduct favorable and unfavorable interpersonal communication verbally or non-verbally in TEFL. This study also indicates that teachers’ cross-gender using nonverbal communication perceives as an inconvenience, touch, and personal space. These contrarieties propose that teachers consider their students’ culture, beliefs, or preferences while utilizing interpersonal communication in TEFL, especially personal space and touch at the high school level.

Effectiveness of interpersonal communication (interpersonal) in the teaching and learning process to realize the ideals of national education, which in the end the quality of implementation lies in the hands of the teacher. As for the teaching and learning process, the source message can be delivered from students, teachers, and so on. With interpersonal communication persuasively and effectively, communication between teachers and students in the teaching and learning process can help motivate and encourage students to move in a positive direction. The purpose of this study was to determine how the effectiveness of teacher and student interpersonal communication in the teaching and learning process at SMK Negeri 7 Ambon and to find out what factors could be a constraint on the effectiveness of teacher and student interpersonal communication in the teaching and learning process at SMK Negeri 7 Ambon. This study uses qualitative research with data collection techniques are observation and interview techniques. From the results of this study, it was seen that students sometimes did not understand the material provided by the teacher and had difficulty in making assignments because the way the material was delivered by the teacher was considered unclear by students. And the personal closeness between students and teachers, so that it also affects the teaching and learning process in the classroom. Efektivitas Komunikasi interpersona (antar pribadi) dalam proses belajar mengajar untuk mewujudkan cita-cita pendidikan nasional, yang pada akhirnya mutu pelaksanaan terletak ditangan guru. Adapun dalam belajar mengajar proses penyampaian pesan sumbernya bisa dari murid, guru, dan lain sebagainya. Dengan komunikasi interpersonal secara persuasif dan efektif, komunikasi antara guru kepada siswanya dalam proses belajar mengajar dapat membantu motivasi serta mendorong siswa untuk bergerak kearah yang positif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui bagaimana efektivitas komunikasi interpersona guru dan siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar di SMK Negeri 7 Ambon dan mengetahui faktor apa saja yang dapat menjadi kendala efektivitas komunikasi interpersonal guru dan siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar di SMK Negeri 7 Ambon. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik-teknik pengumpulan data adalah Teknik Observasi dan wawancara. Dari hasil penelitian ini dilihat bahwa siswa kadang tidak mengerti materi yang diberikan oleh guru dan kesulitan dalam membuat tugas karena cara penyampaian materi oleh guru dianggap kurang jelas oleh siswa. Dan kedekatan secara pribadi antara siswa dan guru, sehingga juga mempengaruhi proses belajar mengajar di kelas.

People as a creature that has a fairly high mobility in an effort to meet the needs of inevitably will adjust to the different social environment. This environment will certainly make someone encountering a new situation which is full of uncertainty in which the man claimed to communicate with interpesonal as an attempt to obtain information as to the existence of his/her life, including adolescents in Panti Pelayanan Sosial Anak Woro Wiloso Salatiga. A sense of uncertainty in adolescents who live in orphanage care must be reduced so that they are able to survive and continue their education through a orphanage provided by the government. The purpose of this research is to know the uncertainty as well as the process and strategy of adolescent in reducing uncertainty. This research is a descriptive qualitative study type where the data was collected through interviews with 6 people the informant i.e. adolescents of PPSA Woro Wiloso Salatiga aged 13-18 years. The results showed that adolescent in the orphanage have the cognitive uncertainty and behavioral uncertainty, they apply the reduction processes and uncertainty reduction strategies through interpersonal communication on the early days of interacting in the orphanage.
