“…Over the past number of years, awareness has arisen around the concept that the most sustainable strategy for enhancing PWS growth performance and survival should rely on the development of functional diets that allow health and economic benefits beyond basic nutrition [ 14 , 15 ]. There are several functional products available that could contribute to such aims, including growth promoters, probiotics, prebiotics, immunomodulators, phytogenic substances, and organic acids, targeting intestinal health, stress, and disease resistance of aquatic organisms [ 15 , 16 , 17 ]. Nucleotides are immunomodulatory compounds, and they are the building blocks of DNA and RNA and are important for many physiological processes in living organisms.…”

“…Hemocytes are the primary mediators of cellular responses in crustaceans, with roles that include self-recognition, phagocytosis, production of reactive oxygen intermediates, wound healing, and the process of melanization by encapsulation of foreign materials [ 42 44 ]. The increase in THC of whiteleg shrimp with hairy eggplant and bitter ginger can be suspected due to the effect of bioactive compounds that can modulate shrimp immunity.…”

“…According to Novriadi et al. (2021), lysozyme activity which is produced by shrimp haemocytes act as an antimicrobial protein and become one of the important element to enhance the non‐specific immune system in shrimp against pathogen. Activity of lysozyme could be increase with the increase of haemocytes concentrations, but it is not always the case.…”

“…(2007) revealed that in the case of infection, haemocytes could be recruited to the site of injection early during the course of immune response thus reducing the number of haemocytes in circulation. Recently, the addition of hydrolysable tannins as the functional ingredients in the practical diets of vannamei also produce significant increases in lysozyme activity in shrimp treated with tannins compared to the control treatment but not for the THC (Novriadi et al., 2021). Based on this situation, time series analysis to quantify the lysozyme expression and haemocytes counts will be necessary to provide better understanding on how the addition of FCPC could enhance the non‐specific immune system in shrimp.…”
