Effects of Jamaican cherry (Muntingia calabura L.) Fruits Extract on Immunoglobulin G Levels and Hematological Profiles in Mice

Abstract: Background: Jamaican cherry (Muntingia calabura L.) fruits contain potential immunomodulatory agents such as phenolic and flavonoid compounds. However, previous research was limited only to the effect of Jamaican cherry fruits on non-specific immune response namely the phagocytic index. Objective: This study aims to determine the immunomodulatory activity of Jamaican cherry fruits against specific immune response by measuring the antibody formation named immunoglobulin G (IgG). In addition, the hematological p… Show more

“…Kebanyakan turunan fenolik pada tumbuhan mempengaruhi respon imun non spesifik terutama melalui peningkatan fagositosis dan limfosit serta proliferasi neutrofil (Grigore, 2017). Penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak metanol dan fraksi etil asetat memiliki efek imunomodulator terhadap respon imun non spesifik dengan meningkatkan indeks fagositik (Sujono et al, 2020).…”

“…In addition, the leaves were also reported to have properties including anti-gout, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, antioxidant, and antiinflammatory (11,12). M. calabura fruits are well-known to possess certain pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory properties, as well as antirheumatic, antioxidants, antidiabetic, and immunomodulatory properties (13). In Central America, its flowers are traditionally used as antispasmodic and antiseptic agents, and some compounds isolated from its roots may be used to control malignant cell growth (14).…”
