“…Studies of the behavior of PEEK under cyclic loading have concluded that during fatigue tests, PEEK can become stiffer with less damping due to its increasing inability to relax residual stresses from macromolecular slipping and disentanglement and also that PEEK samples with larger inclusions (impurities, defects) have shorter fatigue life. It has also been concluded that in the presence of notches the majority of the energy of the total cyclic lifetime of PEEK is spent on crack initiation and not crack propagation . That is, PEEK fatigue life is mostly dependent of the mechanisms of crack initiation.…”
