Effects of pressure-free steam ironing on cotton fabric surfaces and wrinkle recovery

Abstract: In this study, a thorough investigation of a pressure-free vertical cloth ironing process on cotton fabric was conducted for the first time, using the data from a sensory evaluation and the test results on a custom-built platform. The importance of such process factors as temperature, steam amount, cooling wind and ironing time are examined, so as to fit them into an empirical equation. Verification of the fitted equation is then conducted by comparing the sensory and predicted data. Finally, explanations and … Show more

“…The surface pressure and cooling speed of an iron may exert single or coupled effect on the ironing speed and effect of fabric (Liang et al, 2016(Liang et al, , 2017. Iron and ironing board at present are the most commonly-used in household, through hot and humid condition to recover clothing shape.…”

“…19 In contrast, hydrophobic fibers, such as nylon or polyester, with very low or no water absorbency will show little such effect. 21 In addition to crease recovery, wrinkling and crumpling of soft sheets have been studied in recent years. For example, Douglas 22 and Huang 23 studied the factors determining wrinkle sizes and shapes in soft materials under uniaxial stress.…”
