Effects of Soybean Oil Modified Cellulose Fibril and Organosilane Modified Cellulose Fibril on Crystallization of Polypropylene

Abstract: Soybean oil modified cellulose fibril (Oil-g-CF) and organosilane modified cellulose fibril (Silane-g-CF) were prepared using maleinized soybean oil and hexadecyltrimethoxysilane, respectively. Thus obtained modified cellulose fibril was added to polypropylene by a simple melt mixing on a hotplate. PP/modified CF composites with 4.0 wt% filler content were prepared. The composites were subject to a polarized optical microscope to investigate particle dispersion, supramolecular morphology, and crystallization b… Show more

“…As a result, cellulose (CS)/SiO 2 nanocomposite was obtained. Then, hexadecyltrimethoxysilane emulsion (HDTMS/EO15/CH 3 OH/H 2 O) was added with vigorous homogenization [16]. To study the effect of degree of surface modification, two ratios of cellulose to HDTMS wt ratio of 1 : 0.25 and 1 : 1 were prepared.…”

“…Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) that extracted from natural fiber is used in many applications such as pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetic, and polymer composites industries due to its non-toxicity, biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, biodegradability, crystallinity, and renewability properties [1]. MCC is generally known as an organic constituent in nature, which acquired from hydrolysis of cellulose that comprises of a linear homopolysaccharide of β-(1-4) linked anhydro-Dglucose units [2] and found to be odorless and crystalline in a form of powder. MCC is a naturally occurring substance derived from purified and partially depolymerized cellulose and exhibit variations according to its origin sources of the raw material and the types of extraction process.…”
