Electrochemical determination diethylstilbestrol by a single-walled carbon nanotube/platinum nanoparticle composite film electrode

Abstract: Platinum nanoparticles (Pt nano ) were prepared and used in combination with single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) for fabricating electrochemical sensors with remarkably improved sensitivity toward diethylstilbestrol (DES). The glassy carbon (GC) electrode modified with SWNT/Pt nano composite film exhibited excellent electrochemical behaviors toward the redox of DES. Compared with the bare GC electrode and SWNTs film modified GC electrode, the redox peak currents at the SWNTs/Pt nano composite film modified GC e… Show more

“…Due to their unique structure, CNTs can behave electrically as a metal or as a semiconductor. The subtle electronic behavior of CNTs reveals that they have the ability to promote electron-transfer reactions, when they are used as an electrode material in electrochemical reactions [3]. CNTs are molecular-scale wires with high electrical conductivity, extremely high mechanical strength and modulus, and can be divided into two categories: singlewall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs).…”

“…However, the main problems associated with the use of sample preconcentration for the determination of DES are the lack of selectivity and the low recovery. To date, chemically modified electrodes have been applied for detection of DES [15][16][17][18][19]. They are low-cost and usually do not require time consuming sample preparation.…”

“…Some researchers have already pointed out problems associated with DES adsorption which leads to low sensitivity and irreproducibility for its detection [14] . Among them, some have used surfactants in solution to prohibit the electron exchange between DES and the electrode, and block its adsorption [14b, 15]. Regarding to Aragão et al.…”
