Electronic spectra and crystal structure of dinuclear Cu(II) ‘paddle wheel’ acetate complex containing axially coordinated 3-methyl-4-nitropyridine-N-oxide

Abstract: This article presents the electronic spectral characteristics enhanced with the structural, IR and magnetic data of the copper(II) acetate complex with 3-methyl-4-nitropyridine-N-oxide. The complex of the formula, [Cu 2 (OAc) 4 (3-mnpn) 2 ], belongs to the group of the 'paddle wheel' type species with a very short (2.58 Å ) metalmetal distance. In the electronic spectra, new bands were found at 16,000 and 24,000 cm -1 , which have been tentatively assigned to the metal-metal interactions and solid state effect… Show more

“…The EPR spectra of frozen methanol solutions for (1-3) support the solution properties observed previously for other Cu(II) complexes with methyl substituted npn [27,52]. Comparison of the methanol solution EPR spectra with that for copper(II) nitrate dissolved also in methanol indicates that all the spectra are similar.…”

“…Finally, on the basis of the obtained data and the available literature [26,27,52], the general picture of the structural and cytotoxic properties of the copper(II) complexes with the methyl derivatives of the 4-nitropyridine N-oxide are presented.…”

“…As showed in the study by Staszak et al [86] 3-methyl-4-nitropyridine-N-oxide (3-mnpn) interacts with copper(II) acetate to form a solid, crystalline, dinuclear copper(II) complex with formula [Cu(OAc) 2 (3-mnpn)] 2 . New bands observed at 16000 and 24000 cm -1 in the electronic spectra were plausibly ascribed to metal-metal interactions and solid state effects.…”
