Electrooxidation of Iodide in the Presence of 4-Hydroxycoumarin: Application to a Simple Coulometric Titration of 4-Hydroxycoumarin

Abstract: The electrochemical oxidation of iodide ion in the presence of 4-hydroxycoumarin (1) was studied using cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential coulometry. The result indicates that the resulting iodine takes part in a halogenation reaction and reacts with 4-hydroxycoumarin (1). According to the obtained results, a new and simple coulometric titration method with potentiometric end-point detection for the determination of 4-hydroxycoumarin (1) is presented. In the presented method, 2 -200 µmol of 4-hydroxyc… Show more

“…Some electroanalytical methods have also been used for WA determination in pharmaceutical samples, which can offer some advantages as a simple sample preparation, ease of miniaturization, high sensitivity and their comparative low‐cost. The electroanalysis of WA has been reported by square wave , cyclic voltammetry , differential pulse voltammetry , potentiometry , amperometry , HPLC with electrochemical detection , polarography and coulometric titration . In spite of success of these methods for WA determination, the simplicity and sampling rate required to the routine pharmaceutical analysis is poor.…”

“…High potential would promote the side reaction of 1a and I 2 to form 4-hydroxy-3-iodo-2H-chromen-2-one. 48 While the reaction potential was dropped to 0.2 V, the yield of 3aa was only 28% (entry 5). So, 0.4 V was suitable in the following experiments.…”
