Elevated neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in patients with euthyroid chronic autoimmune thyreotidis

Abstract: Objective. Th e neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), determined from peripheral blood, is accepted as an available and practical indicator of the systemic infl ammation. In this study, we aimed to determine whether the NLR was higher in euthyroid chronic autoimmune thyreotidis (CAT) patients compared to a healthy control group.Methods. A total of 112 patients were enrolled in this study, including 59 patients with euthyroid CAT on any form of therapy and 53 healthy controls. Th e CAT patients were similar in age… Show more

“…The changes in NLR and PLR found in our study indicate that the inflammation might be not only limited to a single organ but also reflect the state of chronic systemic inflammation in HT. Recently, a number of studies have explored the significance of NLR and PLR in assessment of inflammation in HT patients (16,17). Similar to our study results, Keskin et al found that NLR and PLR are higher in patients with euthyroid HT without any replacement therapy [16].…”

Similar to our study results, Keskin et al found that NLR and PLR are higher in patients with euthyroid HT without any replacement therapy [16]. NLR and PLR were increased in numerous studies in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, familial Mediterranean fever, ulcerative colitis (UC) and psoriasis [3][4][5][6]18].…”
