EM-Taguchi Module for Characterization of WAD

Abstract: Accurate performance characterization is critical in a design optimization environment. The electromagnetic (EM) design optimization of an ocean wave linear generator buoy or wave activated device (WAD) requires the use of large number of finite element-state space, design evaluations due to the stochastic behavior of the wave and the nonlinear nature of the device. This paper proposes the utilization of Taguchi orthogonal arrays method to reduce the EM, computational time needed to accurately characterize a W… Show more

“…In order to fit the response surface better, the central composite design (CCD) method is used to select the initial sample points. Model of CCD consists of eight runs at the corners of a cubic (±1, ±1, ±1), plus six runs at the star points, (0, ±α, 0), (0, 0, ±α), and one run at the cubic centre (0, 0, 0) [17][18][19]. The CCD model is shown in Figure 9.…”

“…For example, M. Deb adopted the Taguchi analysis principle based on fuzzy logic to study the multi-objective optimization scheme for the soot-NO x -BTHE characteristics of an existing hydrogen-fuel dual-fuel direct-injection engine [8]. A. R. A. Arkadan used the Taguchi orthogonal array method to reduce the accurate characterization of the performance of a wave-activated device that corresponded to a sea wave profile and the computation time required for the design and optimization of the environment [9]. C. H. Lin adopted modified particle swarm optimization and the Taguchi method of finite element analysis to optimize a six-phase copper rotor induction motor with a scroll compressor to achieve the minimum manufacturing cost, starting current, efficiency, and power factor [10].…”
