Emulsion electrospun polylactic acid/Apocynum venetum nanocellulose nanofiber membranes with controlled sea buckthorn extract release as a drug delivery system

Abstract: Prolonging the duration of drug action and reducing toxicity play a vital role in wound administration as they reduce the chance of infection and decrease complications and cost. This study reports the natural antioxidant procyanidins extracted from sea buckthorn (SBT) and laboratory-manufactured Apocynum venetum cellulose nanofiber as core drugs. The sustained-release nanofiber membrane was prepared by electrospinning on polylactic acid/polyvinyl pyrrolidone nanofibers. High-performance liquid chromatography-… Show more

“…As a result, they obtained a release character dominated by the diffusion mechanism, which promoted wound healing [ 16 ]. Other applications include improving the solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs (such as probutol) by encapsulating them in PVA-based fibers in the presence of a surfactant (Polysorbate 80) [ 17 ], the incorporation of antioxidants (sea buckthorn) in PLA/apocynum venetum cellulose fibers [ 18 ] and in dual-sensitive drugs for antitumor treatment consisting of Ag/Au and the therapeutic drug silibinin in the core part [ 19 ].…”

“…With the right extraction techniques, AVE can be blended with other materials and achieve more versatile composites. Cellulose nanofibres (CNFs), PLA/CNF films, and CNFs reinforced chitosan-based composite hydrogels are a few of the materials reported in the literature [ 32 , 33 ]. In this study, Apocynum venetum leaves were combined with polyvinyl butyral (PVB) to prepare a filter membrane material for mask filtration.…”

“…The slow-release nanofiber membrane was prepared by electrostatic spinning on polylactic acid/polyvinylpyrrolidone nanofibers. The results showed that the extracted proanthocyanidins are successfully encapsulated in the core–sheath structure nanofibers and had high antioxidant activity [ 19 ].…”
