Enantio‐separation of drugs with multiple chiral centers by chromatography and capillary electrophoresis

Abstract: Some drugs with more than one chiral center are of high medicinal values. However, the chiral resolution of such types of racemate is a challenging task for scientists. The evolution of efficient chiral selectors is a hope for the future. Some papers have described such types of chiral resolution. The different techniques used for the purpose are HPLC, micellar electrokinetic chromatography, supercritical fluid chromatography, capillary electrochromatography and capillary electrophoresis. Owing to these facts,… Show more

“…Chirality remains as a promising topic in analytical sciences as the biological activity of a pair of enantiomers can severely differ. Importance of chirality is reflected in many fields especially in pharmaceutical, food, environmental, clinical, and toxicological areas as shown in recent literature published on this matter . In most of these applications, a high sensitivity is required in order to detect or even quantify trace or ultra‐trace components.…”

“…Different kinds of chiral stationary phase (CSP) have been developed and reported to achieve enantiomeric separation of various chiral drugs . Polysaccharide‐based CSPs are significant because of their broad application and brilliant loading capacity . Among them, cellulose tris‐(3,5‐dichlorophenylcarbamate) (CDCPC) has been known as a CSP with high enantiorecognition ability since the 1980s .…”

“…In particular, chiral columns have attracted attention as a key technology to separate enantiomers in response to the new physiological discoveries . Valuable physiologically active substances usually possess multiple chiral centers in their molecular structure, thereby making the separation of a target enantiomer difficult . When a chiral conjugated polymer is used as a stationary phase in a column, further insight into solvent effects is required to achieve a more selective enantiomer separation.…”
