Enantiomeric separation of ornithine in complex mixtures of amino acids by EKC with off-line derivatization with 6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate

Abstract: a b s t r a c tA new analytical methodology was developed by EKC enabling the fast enantiomeric separation of Ornithine in complex mixtures of amino acids. A previous derivatization step with 6-aminoquinolyl-Nhydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate (AQC) was achieved to enable the sensitive UV detection of amino acids as well as to make possible their interaction with the CDs employed as chiral selectors. A dual CD system containing an anionic and a neutral CD in phosphate buffer at acid pH showed a high resolving power… Show more

“…Thus, several works have reported the enantiomeric separation of Orn by CE [15][16][17][18][19]. Some of them have been developed in our research group, reaching analysis times lower than 15 min, even showing their potential in food analysis [17][18][19]. However, the use of UV detection in these works originated limitations in the analysis of complex matrices.…”

“…A CE method in the EKC separation mode using HS-b-CD and Ac-g-CD as chiral selectors in acidic media has recently been developed by our research team for the chiral separation of amino acids [31]. This method demonstrated a huge enantiomeric separation potential for chiral protein amino acids including Arg and Lys, and the chiral nonprotein amino acid Orn.…”
