Energy Balancing With Wide Range of Operation in the Isolated Multi-Modular Converter

Abstract: The series-connection of modules in multilevel converters are prone to energy imbalances in the dc capacitor due to the differences between the power absorbed and consumed. In renewable energy applications where the primary source is directly connected to each module, energy imbalances can be even worse if the primary sources are affected by unpredictable weather conditions. Therefore, control strategies are required to compensate such energy imbalances, while maintaining the correct converter operation. Focus… Show more

“…where E on and E off are the energy used by the switches. The total power losses (P total loss ) is calculated: P total loss = P cl + P sl (17) The efficiency (ï) is calculated using the following relation ï = P out P in = P out P out + P loss (18) where P out and P in are the output and input powers.…”

“…The current multilevel inverter topologies comprise a smaller number of components used in the circuit compared with the conventional inverters such as flying capacitor type (FC) [14], cascaded H-bridge type (CHB) [15] and the neutral point clamped type (NPC) [16]. The number of components in the circuit is directly proportional to the number of levels in MLI, which increases cost and complex structure [17]. In both the FC MLI and NPC MLI, the capacitor voltage balancing is a challenging task with which these are limited to five-level and unable to cascade.…”

“…The main work of the pump is to suck the water from the sea. This process can be done by both open and closed loop system [22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. The developed system also reduces the THD as illustrated in Figures 14 and 15.…”

“…It was firstly introduced to control the rigid body of active magnetic bearings, which provided a new view on the closed loop control [11]. Up to now, the application areas based on such a principle covered stability control of power systems, hamiltonian system, photovoltaic systems, active power filters, converters and so on [12][13][14][15][16].…”
