Energylab Nordhavn: An integrated community energy system towards green heating and e-mobility

Abstract: Abstract-This paper analyzes the green potential of a newly developed urban community, i.e., Nordhavn, in Copenhagen, Denmark from a planning perspective, wherein the energy sector of power, heat and transportation will be developed as an integrated energy system solution. Based on an hour-by-hour analysis wherein the generation and demand in each energy sector are balanced, the analysis explains how different levels of penetration of centralized heat pumps (HPs) and electric vehicles (EVs) would influence the… Show more

“…The ambitious goal of building a fossil fuel independent society by 2050 is a crucial objective to ensure the green future of Denmark [1]. The large-scale implementation of renewable energy sources (RES) is an essential approach to significantly decrease CO 2 emissions, mitigate climate change, phase out fossil fuels and provide sustainable development of the country [2]. Despite the undeniable ecological benefits, the intermittency of renewable energy is a fundamental challenge.…”

“…This example is emblematic of the possible coexistence between several management paradigms. Such a coexistence between several types of management is also illustrated in the Nordhavn district in Copenhagen [58]. The approach there is also multi-energy and explicitly addresses the charging of electric vehicles.…”

“…There is also a study carried out regarding an energy community in Copenhagen that includes both heat pumps and electric mobility [26]. It concludes that integrating EVs into the power system results in a higher penetration of renewable energies.…”
