“…K. oxytoca is used in production of 2,3-butylene glycol and 2,3-butanediol from xylose (4,5). Many studies of 2,3-butanediol production using K. oxytoca have been recently reported (6,7,11). In order to understand these unique properties on the genomic level, K. oxytoca KCTC 1686 was obtained from the Korean Collection for Type Culture (Daejun, South Korea).…”

“…The 16S rDNA analysis proved that strain SWU-27 was a member of K. pneumoniae and the results of morphological, biochemical and physiological tests, obeying to the Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology, confirmed these results. In previous studies, K. oxytoca have the phenol-degrading activity and have been certified to produce ethanol and 2, 3-butanediol from xylose and glucose (Ji et al, 2009). The mechanism and improvement of producing 1,3-propanediol and extended spectrum beta-lactamases by K. pneumoniae had become the main focuses of the previous studies (Menzel et al, 1997;Pena et al, 1998).…”

“…Therefore, the agitation speed was first controlled at 300 rpm to achieve higher biomass and carbon flux into 2,3-BD pathway, and subsequently it was switched to 200 rpm to reduce the AC accumulation. Higher 2,3-BD yield might be achieved in comparison to single agitation speed control conditions as described previously (Ji et al 2009). …”
