Enzymatic Saccharification of Cellulosic Materials after Hydrothermolysis and Organosolv Pretreatments

Abstract: ARSTRACT Different cellulose samples as well as lignocellulosic materials which had been pretreated by either organoaolv or hydrothermolyaia proceaaee vere tested 88 to their degradability by a crude cellulaae preparation from Trichoderra viride. The glucose concentrations in hydrolyaate sample8 were determined by HPLC. End-product Inhibition of the cellulaae complex by glucose and cellobloae w a a a l s o studied, as were inhibitory effects caused by lignin-and hemicelluloaederived pretreatment aide-products.… Show more

“…Weil et al also pretreated poplar under similar conditions and achieved 90 wt % digestibility, but only 55 wt % ethanol yield, possibly because of the 1-h heat-up times needed to reach temperatures above 200 °C. Hormeyer et al , also pretreated poplar with hot liquid water (210 °C, 30 min) and achieved only 40−50 wt % digestibility.…”

“…Organosolv pretreatment (e.g. ethanosolv) of wood chips has also been attempted in recent years to open the structure of wood chips, but was originally developed as a pulping technology . It can effectively process recalcitrant substrates and generate cellulose rich substrate that is ready for enzyme hydrolysis .…”
