“…Most of the cohorts of CKS patients found in the literature reporting such information were conducted in high‐endemic countries, most of them in the Mediterranean area (Israel, Greece, Italy, Morocco and Tunisia). Another study reports with details the presentation of CKS in Peru, with a total of 1318 patients. A huge cohort study of 438 patients was conducted in the USA; however, the authors may have included patients seropositive for HIV as the recruitment started before 1980.…”

“…In Latin America, HHV-8 prevalence in the general population of Latin America has been described as low(12, 13), but rural populations with a high prevalence of antibodies to HHV-8 have been described in Brazil(14) and Peru(15). The moderate seroprevalence of HHV-8 among HIV-negative MSM in our study suggests that the previous reports of high HHV-8 seroprevalence and KS incidence(16) among the persons in Peru suggests that there may be substantial heterogeneity in the prevalence of HHV-8 infection among residents of Peru, and bears further study.…”

“…However, the pattern and prevalence vary between these countries. 70 It is therefore imperative to assess the role of HHV-8 in pulmonary vascular disease in endemic areas to provide further information on the role, if any, of this virus in the pathobiology of pulmonary hypertension, therefore providing a reasonable model to study the controversial role of HHV-8 infection in the pathogenesis of pulmonary hypertension.…”
