Epstein-Barr virus-positive Burkitt's lymphoma in a german woman during pregnancy

Abstract: A fatal case of a Burkitt's lymphoma which occurred in a 34-year-old German woman during pregnancy is described. Nearly all organs showed either diffuse or nodular infiltration by tumor cells. Placenta and fetus were free of detectable tumor tissue. The patient had extremely high antibody titers (1 : 2056), both against Epstein-Barr virus capsid antigen (VCA) and the early antigen complex (EA). Within the tumor cells the Epstein-Barr virus-specific nuclear antigen EBNA and viral DNA was detected. A cell line e… Show more

“…Cell lines were grown at 37°C with 5% CO2 in RPMI 1640 medium supplemented with 10% fetal calf serum. The origins of the BL cell lines carrying a t(2;8) translocation have been described (1,2,14,25,28).…”

“…To define the sensitivity and specificity of interphase cytogenetics for the detection of cells carrying structural chromosomal aberrations in an excess of normal cells, we chose the Burkitt lymphoma cell line JI which was established from a female patient and carries the translocation t(2;8)(q32;q24) (Bornkamm et al, 1980). The control cell line has a normal male karyotype (46,XY).…”

“…The cell line Daudi [14] was used as a source of DNA for a prototypeVx1 gene. Similarly the cell lines GM607 (obtained from the Human Mutant Cell Repository, Camden, NJ), IARC/BL41 [15] and JI [16] were used as sources of DNA for prototypeVxI1,VxIII and VxIV genes, respectively.…”
