Picosecond lifetimes of medium spin states in 165 Lu were measured for the first time. The reaction used to populate the nucleus of interest was 139 La( 30 Si, 4n) 165 Lu at a beam energy of 135 MeV. The beam was provided by the XTU-tandem accelerator of Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, Italy. By using the differential decay curve method, lifetimes of 19 states in four different rotational bands were obtained. Therefrom the B(E2) values and the transitional quadrupole moments were deduced. The obtained Q t for the different bands are compared with total Routhian surface (TRS) calculations and particle-rotor-model calculations. The TRS calculations predict different axial symmetric shapes for the bands built on the 9/2 − [514], 7/2 + [404], and 1/2 − [541] configurations, with a γ softness for the 9/2 − [514] configuration. This band has also been studied using the particle-rotor model, the results of which, however, are consistent with a triaxial shape with a γ value of −15 • .

Nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals that can generate deep‐ultraviolet (DUV) lasers by the frequency conversion processes play an important role in many basic and frontier research fields. Tetrahedron‐based NLO crystals, which are decent DUV NLO candidates, always exhibit a large DUV transparency window. However, their insufficient birefringence often makes it difficult to satisfy the phase matching condition in the DUV or even UV region. Therefore, some strategies are put forward to improve the phase matching ability of tetrahedron‐based DUV NLO crystals. In this review, the relevant reports are summarized into four categories, including the heterozygosity of tetrahedral groups, the introduction of the planar groups, the combination of the heteroleptic tetrahedrons and the planar groups, and the recombination of polar structures with ferroelectricity. Furthermore, the development tendency of tetrahedron‐based DUV NLO crystals is also discussed. Therefore, this review will be helpful to the exploration of new DUV NLO crystals.

Performance enhancement induced by structural modification has long been the target in materials science fields. Direct evidence to witness the effectivity of one strategy is challenging and necessary. In this work, a tetrahedra‐decoration strategy was proposed to improve the birefringent performance sharply, namely decorating the tetrahedra with a single linear [S2] unit. The strategy was verified by comprehensive characterization of two thiogermanates K2BaGeS4 and K2BaGeS5, which crystallize in the same space group, have similar unit cells and the same units arrangements. Theoretical characterization verified that the [GeS5] group has much larger polarization anisotropy than [GeS4], further demonstrated that the linear [S2] led to the sharp birefringence enlargement of K2BaGeS5 (0.19 vs 0.03 of K2BaGeS4). This work provides a new guiding thought to improve the birefringence performance.
