Evaluation Groundwater Quality by Using Gis and Water Quality Index Techniques for Wells in Bardarash Area, Northern Iraq

Abstract: Studying groundwater quality in arid and semi-arid regions is essential significant because it is used as a foremost alternative source for various purposes (human and animal consumption, economic, agriculture and irrigation). Geographic Information System and Water Quality Index techniques were utilized for visualizing and evaluating the variations of groundwater quality in the studied area. Total twelve wells were sampled and twelve groundwater quality (chemical) parameters; pH, Total Alkalinity, Total Hardn… Show more

“…IDW (with powers ranging from 1 to 5), simple and ordinary kriging, and spline interpolation techniques, and the recorded annual rainfall values from rainfall stations (observed data) (Al-Husban, 2017;Tabarestani and Afzalimehr, 2021). The interpolation method was used to predict unknown rainfall values based on observed rainfall values from five rainfall stations (apart from the rainfall stations surrounding the study area) (Al-Husban, 2017;Fatah et al, 2020a). The accuracy of the predictive models was assessed based on the data from the rainfall stations within the study area.…”

“…Sejauh ini, air tanah masih sangat banyak dijumpai penggunaannya [5] sebagai suplay kebutuhan harian manusia [6]. Media yang digunakan dapat berupa sumur tanah [7] maupun sumur bor [8]. Masyarakat memanfaatkan air tanah karena dirasa lebih efektif dalam penggunaan seperti mencuci [9], memasak [10], mandi [11] serta untuk dikonsumsi [12].…”

“…However, these methodologies do not take into account different types of water contamination since they are unable to identify all elements and their level of influence on the evaluation in order to meet functional area criteria, Therefore, groundwater quality index GWQI ( By entropy method was used to achieve this goal. The GWQI has been used in many studies to give a single value for the evaluation of water quality for drinking purposes such as (Rashid et al, 2016;Fatah et al, 2020;Beg et al, 2021). The groundwater quality index (GWQI) is employed in this study to assess the quality of the groundwater.…”
