“…In comparison to the control group, we noticed that the normal saline-treated group had a significant paw thickness increase which peaked at 3 hours after carrageenan injection. This finding was also described by Umamageswari and Maniyar [27]. Indeed, carrageenan induced an acute inflammatory reaction typically characterized by vasodilation and tissue swelling.…”

“…Umamageswari and Maniyar [ 22 ] reported the presence of saponins in the aqueous extract of eggplant leaves ( S. melongena L.), which differs from our study since saponins were only found in the aqueous extract of the stem and fruit, and the methanolic extract of the fruit, perhaps due to the process used to obtain the extract. On the other hand, these same authors reported the presence of tannins and flavonoids, similar to our study.…”

“…For this reason, eggplant is one of the top ten vegetables with high oxygen radical absorbance capacity [ 16 , 18 , 19 ]. In some eggplant studies, the antioxidant [ 20 ], antidiabetics [ 21 ], anti-inflammatory [ 22 , 23 ], antiproliferative [ 24 ], analgesic [ 25 ], antimicrobial [ 26 , 27 ], and anticancer properties [ 28 , 29 , 30 ] are mainly related to its secondary metabolite content. A group of researchers has developed a product from eggplant peel (generally considered waste), showing an anticancer effect on skin cancer cells [ 31 , 32 ].…”

“…After 1 hr all the animals received 10 ml/kg of 0.7% v/v acetic acid injection intraperitoneally. The writhing episodes were recorded for 30 minutes; stretching movements consisting of arching of the back, elongation of body and extension of hind limbs were counted (Umamageswari and Yasmeen, 2015).…”
